Family heirlooms are a catalyst or placeholder for oral histories. They become markers of time but their stories may grow to mythical proportions the more time passes. Since childhood I have visualized a family violin that has been missing my whole life. The stories about its speculated worth and possible demise have morphed over time and by storyteller. Its absence becomes stronger than it’s presence.
From a distance, collective memory may appear the same but when closely examined the variations become apparent. Is any one "memory" the truth or fact or are they all equal?
