Most of the world eats rice and many people depend on it as a staple food. The cost of food, access and distribution put the world’s poorest at great risk of starvation.
After the 2007/08 spike in food prices, I began my work about the food riots, the agricultural trade practice of “dumping” government subsidized food on a neighboring country and how food is moved and distributed internationally. The work takes many forms from sculpture, timelapse installation, dance performance that uses the sound and smell of falling rice, and a public jam session with pots of dry rice.
